Sinopsis
"In March 1988 Buchanan accepted an invitation to speak at the University of Hawaii. Four of the essays collected in this volume derive from those talks. They comprise Buchanan's seminal thought on public choice, budget deficit, and ethics, and challenge more orthodox theories. The remaining three essays are instructive: Buchanan redefines the work ethic and concept of leisure; he argues that the instability of coalitions of producer groups contributes to hindering protectionism; and he reflects on the milestones of his personal intellectual history prior to winning the Nobel Prize."--from the inside front flap.
